Behaviour is complex! Scent work behaviour is VERY complex! During a training session, there is always a lot going on for both the dog and the handler. Learning is dynamic and multilayered, which means our dogs may be learning more than we are trying to teach. Sometimes these extracurricular activities may be beneficial, but often the learning can be detrimental to our overall goal of having the happiest, most independent, fastest sourcing dog in the southern hemisphere. In this webinar, we delve into how we can best analyse our scent-work training sessions. What did our dog perceive? What may have stuck? What may have unstuck? What may have overshadowed the very thing we were wanting them to learn? It’s a deep rabbit hole for sure… We will also look at the best ways we can set up and analyse our sessions, AND what we need to think about in a trial so that the learning in training doesn’t get ruined in our TRIALING….
